Happy Mother's Day!

In case you need a gentle nudge, Mother’s Day is this Sunday.  Hopefully you’ll shower your mom with a card, flowers, candy or something else that she’ll appreciate.  Maybe you’ll even get to spend some family time with her at brunch or dinner.  That gives you a chance to get your dance on before and even after.  Maybe your mom will even tag along.

Thursday, Devandra Banhart headlines at the Belly Up for a sold out show.  As one of the most popular musicians rising out of the “new weird America” movement, Banhart gained underground notoriety in New York for performing several shows with underwear on his head.  Is that so wrong?  DJ, producer, kangol collector, cold lamper J.Blow makes his way to Bar Pink, along with Daeta, The Fresh Yard and Premiere Fits.  At Voyeur, it’s Salva with Posso.  Get on the no cover before 10:30pm list here.  Marcus Schulz and the North American Scream Tour hits Fluxx EDM and some presale tickets were still available last time I checked.
Friday night,, Citybeat presents the 4th Annual TikiBeat Summer Pool Party at the Lafayette Hotel featuring Creepxotica, The Devastators, Quintinn Holi of Hale Ukelele and more.  It’s an early event starting at 6:30pm and tickets are only available at the door.  Get more info here.  At the Casbah, it’s a special early acoustic show at 6pm with Unwritten Law and Noel Jordan.  Afterwards, enjoy a late night dance party with Blowoff (Bob Mould and Rich Morel).  Another event on my radar is happening at the Oceanside Museum of Art, as Art After Dark presents Dr. Steampunk’s Art Extravaganza.  Cruise over to The Whistle Stop as Pussy Galore presents Hills Like Elephants and Bulletins.  I’ll be DJing with Terryn S throughout the night and there’s no cover.  Grab more details here.  At the Belly Up, it’s a sold out show with Pepper.

Saturday is the OMBAC Beach Music Festival at Mariner’s Point.  Another chance to see Pepper, as they are headlining.  Also playing is Vokab Company with Crush Effect, Stranger and Natural Vibrations.  The 21 and up fun starts at 2pm and you can get info here.  For some happy hour action, head to The Whistle Stop as Eric of Daydream Nation and Rob Crow of Pinback spin the tunes, while Jimmy from Louis XIV pours the drinks.  That night, Club Sabbat takes over both rooms at Numb3rs in Hillcrest.  I’ll be DJing in the main room with Diskdroid and Drew Harlander will be keeping it old school in the back room.  For more info, check out this link.  The always fun Dragon Lounge featuring Sugarpill, Arkon, Misk and Goldenchild are at The Kava Lounge.

Enjoy your weekend and I’ll see you on the dance floor.
