Love is in the air! It’s that time of year where we shell out lots of money on dinner, flowers, candy, teddy bears and anything else that shows our affection for that special someone. Make sure you don’t spend it all this weekend though. Plenty of pre-Valentines shenanigans await you starting with Thursday night when Designer Drugs invade Voyeur downtown. If you’ve never seen this New York based grind house duo before, don’t miss your chance. No Body will do an opening set and you can get more info plus RSVP for the no cover before 10:30 list here. Just down the street at Fluxx, world famous Russian DJ Arty will trance the night away. In 2009, Arty release his first production at the age of 19. By 2010 after many singles, collaborations and remixes, Arty reached position 78 in the Top 100 DJs election of DJ Magazine. In 2011 he was nominated in the category of Best Break-Through DJ at the International Dance Music Awards and there’s no stopping him in 2012. Super Duper Weekend Ahead

Wow, February is already here and Valentines Day is just around the corner. There will be plenty to do the weekend before since it falls on a Tuesday this year. In the meantime, get this month off to a rockin’ start with Thursday night and Le Spank at The Office. One of my favorite local DJs Gabe Vega will spin an all vinyl set, plus Jon Dadon and Boys Don’t Disco round out the lineup. More info via this link.

Friday night will be nuts at Voyeur for Atlanta based, Chicago born Felix Da Housecat. He has headlined clubs on every continent, festivals and special events around the world as a DJ. Plus, his solid reputation as a musician who delivers has led Da Housecat to remix for artists such as Madonna, Gwen Stefani and The Chemical Brothers, just to name a few. Saturday night join me for Club Ascension at The Kava Lounge. It’s one of my favorite monthly nights where Tom King and I host and spin the best in dark underground dance music. NYC’s Luca Venezia aka Drop The Lime, is the man behind Trouble & Bass, an influential New York club night and label since 2006. This week flew by pretty quickly for me and we have another fun weekend to look forward to. I’ll be kicking off my Thursday night at the SoundDiegoLive event at McFadden’s downtown. How could I pass up the double bill of Stephen Rey & the Slicks plus Kera & the Lesbians? The Garage to Glory contest winner Hero Inside will open up the night. Info for you here. Then I’m thinking of heading to El Dorado for Saul Q’s Getting Too Old Birthday Bash featuring a Night of Motown, ‘60s, garage, surf, freakbeat and psychedelic music. Stack-Aly, Kid Wonder and The Miguel will be spinning the tunes and there’s no cover.

The Oceanside Museum of Art hosts after-hours events and Art After Dark is back on Friday, channeling a Night Odyssey theme. Inspired by The Point of View: William Glen Crooks exhibition, this winter edition will thread together technology, light and art through an L.E.D. art board installation and a live art showcase beneath a black light display. Live musical entertainment by Starcrossed and DJ Carlo will treat guests to a cocktail of sounds of 80’s electro-pop. Get more details here. Also on Friday, the gorgeous Pakistani-American singer Nadia Ali will make her way to Stingaree downtown. On Saturday The Whistle Stop is putting on a cancer benefit event starting at 5pm with DJs Claire and Dubchops, along with a bake sale and raffle. Plus, happy hour specials and the MIHO Gastrotruck will be serving food out front. Then the Whistle will shift into party mode with Dimitri and Rob Moran for Booty Basement. A portion of the proceeds will benefit “The I’m Too Young For This! Cancer Foundation,” a non-profit organization that empowers young adults affected by cancer through programs and services. The UK’s Above & Beyond invaded Fluxx last night with an 18+ show and they return Thursday night for EDM action with the 21+ crowd. More info here as you get ready to trance the night away.

Working Up A Sweat On The Dance Floor

Happy New Year! I don’t know about you but I’ve put on a few pounds over the past month. It happens to a lot of us over the holidays. Now, I’m not one to normally make a list of New Years resolutions. I believe in living each day with goals and intentions – not having the time of year determine how to live my life. That being said, dancing is a great way to burn off calories and every little bit helps when you are trying to get rid of that extra weight. Here are some of the DJ events happening this weekend starting with Thursday night. You can check out Producer/DJ/Remixer DallasK from Orlando, Florida at Voyeur. Dallas Koehlke started producing dance music when he was only 15 years old. Now 20 and working under the name DallasK he is quickly becoming one of the most talked about young electro house DJs of today. The M Machine and Erick Diaz will do opening honors so get there early. Ringing In The New Year!

Bonus points for New Years Eve falling on a Saturday this year. That gives us a great excuse to celebrate the entire weekend and then lots of us have Monday off. San Diego has plenty of events to entertain - even New Years Day parties so you won’t miss a beat. Now all you have to worry about is what to wear and who to kiss when the clock strikes midnight. Oh yeah, and those pesky resolutions for 2012 which you’ll forget by February anyway.

I’ll be warming up Thursday night at The Belly Up where the good vibes will be flowing with Beats Antique. The musical trio consists of producers David Satori, Sidecar Tommy and world-renowned belly dance performer/producer Zoe Jakes. They combine elements of downtempo, glitch, hip-hop and dubstep while adding horns, accordion, viola, and various unusual instruments to their arrangements. As of Wednesday night I got word that the show was sold out so hopefully you already have tickets. At Voyeur downtown it’s the electro/house duo LAZRtag from Los Angeles. The Office Twins will open the night and if you RSVP via this link there’s no cover before 10:30pm.

Friday has much to choose from including PeaceTreaty and Clockwork at Voyeur, New Years Eve Eve with DJs Adam Salter, Damn Juelz and Gabe Vega at U-31 and High 5ive at El Dorado with Charlie Rock, Saul Q, Question and Slyed.

Onto the main event - New Years Eve. The Flame in Hillcrest will celebrate with San Diego’s classiest Gothic, Industrial and Fetish event, Club Sabbat. DJ John C joins me in the main room and DJ Liquid Grey spins in the back room. San Diego's very own dark cabaret band London Below will perform live. Big Night San Diego at the Hilton Bayfront will have 12 themed party areas with six dance floors; live bands include Little Hurricane, MEX and Geezer plus DJs Mike Czech, Edgartronic, Happee and more. 91X will be counting the top 91 songs of 2011 as voted by you. Get more info via this link.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and even though we live in San Diego, it still feels like winter. Get ready to bundle up and venture out because there is plenty to do this weekend starting Thursday night at Voyeur, where the dance floor will heat up with Dillon Francis. Go Go Bizkitt! is the disco/house alias of Tom Nelson and since the start of the project in January 2010, the Edinburgh born producer has been bringing his unique flavor of disco to dance floors of the world. Saturday check out Morten Breum at Voyeur. This Denmark DJ has been doing his thing for the past 14 years. His last album, Drop, went number 1 on iTunes and the first single hit number 1 on the Danish charts the same year. He has played at many major clubs all over Europe, including the UK, Italy, Turkey and France. Don’t miss an opening set from Audrey Napoleon as well. No cover before 10:30pm with your RSVP via this link. Over at The Casbah, it isn’t a dance night per se, but you’ll be jumping up and down as you reunite with friends from days gone by. It has been 25 years since the Pink Panther first opened its doors on Morena Boulevard. Back then you could play 11 songs on the jukebox for a dollar. In case you didn’t know, the Pink Panther was the bar co-owned by Tim Mays (now of The Casbah). On any given night you’d run into the coolest mixture of people from all over San Diego and beyond, including mods, punks and Goths. Thanksgiving is right around the corner and I for one will be doing extra cardio before and after to lessen the guilt. Don’t even get me started on the leftovers. So, let’s get a head start this weekend and dance our turkeys off! Thursday is proving to be a stellar night for shows and dance events. One of my picks is Mord Fustang and Miles Dyson at Voyeur. Saturday night I’ll be heading to see VNV Nation at House Of Blues downtown. It’s the first show of the tour, as their visas were delayed and the band had to postpone their Los Angeles and Phoenix dates. Lucky for us here in San Diego that they got everything squared away and will be making their way to the States on Friday in time for the show Saturday. Straftanz will be opening so get there early. Now it’s definitely feeling like winter time in San Diego. Bundle up and venture out this weekend as there is plenty of fun in store for you. But be prepared to shed those layers once you hit the dance floor.

On Thursday night, Fluxx EDM brings you Italian native artist, producer and DJ EDX. He first hit people’s radars back in 1994 with mix tapes that had circulated around the globe within weeks. Then the producers came calling on his mad skills for remix action. Over the years, he has worked with the likes of Deadmau5, Laidback Luke, Kaskade, Funkagenda and Steve Angello, just to name a few. Onto Friday – by now you’ve heard that the Deadmau5 show originally scheduled to take place at Soma was moved to Petco Park. This is the second show in a new electronic music concert series at Park in the Park. Dubbed the Meowingtons Hax Tour, Deadmau5 will headline the party, along with opening sets by Avicii, Feed Me, Tommy Lee and DJ Aero. This event is 16+ and all 21+ ticket holders can enjoy adult beverages anywhere in the park. The event will begin at 5pm and roll through 11pm. Tickets are available via ticketmaster.com.

After you take part in the San Diego Zombiewalk on Saturday, continue the mayhem at the official After-After Party at The Flame in Hillcrest as Club Sabbat presents their Monster Mash Halloween event. I’ll be spinning in the main room with Diskdroid and Liquid Grey will keep the ghoulish tunes flowing in the back room. Four cash prizes will be awarded to the best costumes in the haunted house. It’s the most wonderful time of the year – the month of October! Since Halloween falls on a Monday this year, the weekend before the actual holiday will be super busy. And between now and then there are three weekends to pack in even more fun.

My picks for this Thursday night include Drop The Lime and The Juggernaut at Voyeur plus EDM with Dash Berlin at Fluxx. Since the venues are so close to one another why not try and make both.

Friday night The Black Unicorn Cabaret rides into San Diego for an all ages show at Queen Bees. A Villainous Vaudeville of Bawdy Burlesque, Music, Mischief and Mayhem featuring Voltaire, This Way to the Egress, The Hellblinki Sextet and girls! girls! girls! Three of the finest Dark Cabaret bands are joined by local burlesque performers for a night not to be missed. I’ll be hosting the festivities that are from 7pm to midnight. For more info, go here. Time is flying by and this month is almost over. Pack in as much fun as you can this weekend - there’s a lot going on. I’ll be kicking off my Thursday night hosting the festivities at The Casbah for SoundDiego Live XIV. Happy Hour is from 7-8pm with free food and drinks, plus catch live performances from Dead Feather Moon, The Get Down Automatic and the winner of the Garage to Glory II contest – The Green Almighty. Secure your spot by going here and join in on the birthday celebration for Corey from Gaglione Brothers, blogger Gwendolyn Jackson, the man behind the scenes at SoundDiego Sean Monzet and Rosemary of SDDialedIn. Friday after I host the shenanigans with 91X at the Haunted Hotel from 7-9pm I’ll be heading over to 4^th & B for the Blue September Grand Finale Concert. Four tribute bands will be playing - Space Oddity (David Bowie), The Joshua Tree (U2), Murmur (R.E.M.) and Still Ill (The Smiths and Morrissey). Plus, there will be a raffle and silent auction with all proceeds going to the Blue September campaign for the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Other things to look forward to include Gosteffects (NYC) and DJ Gabe Vega at U-31 plus Robbie Rivera and Tara Brooks at Voyeur.

Saturday join me for Club Ascension at The Kava Lounge. Tom King and I will be hosting and DJing the best in dark underground dance music throughout the night, along with special guests Ladynoir and ChadO. Summer may be officially over but when it comes to heating up the dance floor this weekend there will be plenty of things to keep you moving.

I thought I was dreaming when I first heard that The Mothership Tour featuring Skrillex was going to make its way to Petco Park Thursday. It will be the first electronic music show there as part of Park at the Park concert series. The 16+ event (alcohol will be served to those 21 and up) is from 6-11pm and also features 12^th Planet, Foreign Beggars and Nadastrom. You can find ticket info here. Then the 21+ official after party is at Voyeur with a “special guest.” And no, I’m not telling!

KEiTHXSN is Keith Milgaten of Jamuel Saxon, one of my favorite local electronic bands who just happened to win Best Electronic this year at the San Diego Music Awards. Over the summer, Keith created a record of rare remixes and versions of major label songs redone for your dancing pleasure. Friday night at The Kava Lounge will be the official birth of these jamz to the world. Night Brawl, Latin Lovers and DJ Matty P will also be part of the night so get there early! Last weekend was so insanely fun after recovering from that crazy blackout! I think everyone needed to let off some steam. Between the San Diego Music Thing and everything else that was happening, it took me a few days to catch up on sleep and get back on track. Halloween is just around the corner and you know how busy things will be next month. So for now, lets pace ourselves during this month of September.

Thursday night the party will be raging at Fluxx as the electro/house/progressive DJ/production duo from Denver, Colorado Manufactured Superstars do their magic with stylish NASA spacesuits, a six-foot-tall teddy bear and who knows what else!?! Johnny James, Ayla Simone and Static Promenade will also be DJing throughout the night. Get more info here. Labor Day Weekend in San Diego

Don’t you just love three-day holiday weekends? Plenty of fun to be had, including a huge electronic festival making its way to San Diego.

But first, one of my picks for Thursday is Physical Education at El Dorado. This monthly disco, electro, boogaloo party on the first day of September will feature San Francisco’s Viceroy, along with San Diego’s French Kiss Collective (Wyatt from FKC celebrating his birthday) and Blancnoire. Wow, summer flew by this year and Labor Day is just around the corner. There will be plenty to do that weekend. But first, this Thursday through Saturday there is no shortage of fun things to do in San Diego and Thursday is proving to be the night for out and about shenanigans. I’ll be starting things off at the Soda Bar with another SoundDiegoLive event featuring music from New Mexico and Old Tiger. Plus, the SoundDiego SoundOff winner Sledding With Tigers will open the night. To get in on the action, go here. Then I’m heading over to the grand opening of The Griffin, formerly known as O’Connells. The space has been transformed and they’ve got a great lineup for the official unveiling. The Howls and The Kabbs will perform, plus Saul Q and Man-Cat spin throughout the night. They also promise a surprised guest DJ. If you’re looking for a dance party, San Diego is the place to be Thursday night. One of my picks is the Simian Mobile Disco DJ Set at Voyeur. And happening just down the street you can get funky at Liplock, a disco/boogie/house party like no other inside The Delta Room at House Of Blues. On the DJ roster, Cosmic Dan from Los Angeles, Wero from TJ, Kimbo plus Boys Don’t Disco vs. Colour Vision. Hosting the event will be an array of local funsters, including themixster.com and MayStar. His production work has been featured on numerous compilations and he even plays runway shows with such notables as Mark Jacobs. It's called Chop Love Carry Fire. Yep, it took me about a week to wrap my head around that name. But now it's finally stuck. The band features Jeremy Toback (Brad), Butch (eels, Lucinda Williams) and Billy Mohler (Macy Gray, Smashing Pumpkins). I'm stoked to be bringing them to San Diego and The Whistle Stop this weekend. Heating Up The Dance Floor!

Another weekend is upon us in San Diego. Summer is in full effect and time is flying by. I can’t believe it’s already August. Needless to say, gotta get in as much fun as we can on the dance floor.

Early in the evening Thursday I recommend checking out TNT at the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art on Kettner Blvd. Two San Diego Awards nominees will be performing – The Nervous Wreckords and Republic of Letters. The fun starts at 7pm and for more details go here.

It’s safe for us locals again, as thousands have departed San Diego for their hometown destinations after a crazy weekend of freaks, geeks and superheroes. You can put away everything from Comic-Con but your pirate costume. More about that coming up. In the meantime, check out Voyeur as LED presents My Life Every Thursday with Moombahton master Dillon Francis from Los Angeles. Francis started making music at age 18, hibernating for about a year in Atlanta to learn his trade. Now 23, he has caught the attention of some of the top players over the past few years including Diplo, Steve Aoki, Will I Am and Major Lazer. Production trio PeaceTreaty will also be on the bill for this fun night of music. To get in for free, all you have to do is RSVP on the event page and arrive before 10:30p. Sweet!

Friday night there are so many different options for you to choose from. Will it be the MegaBounce ultimate circus party at 4^th and B, LexiconDon’s DJ set at U-31 or Dub Smugglers at Kava Lounge? I plan on doing as many of these as possible. The most stops I’ve ever made in one night is four. I doubt I can break my own record but I’ll try.

Even if you won’t be attending Comic-Con, you can still dress up and join in on the dancing fun. Give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination, as San Diego will be packed with locals and those in town just for the weekend. My pick for Thursday night is the return of Samurais and School Girls. I got to be part of the festivities last year and they asked me to do it again. How could I resist? The event features models dressed like manga characters, anime, local art and entertainment by the Hell On Heels Burlesque Revue. I’ll be DJing with Johnny Tran throughout the night. A portion of proceeds will benefit ArtReach, a not-for-profit organization that takes professional artists into K-6 classrooms in San Diego. The party starts at 8:30pm on the rooftop of the 10^th Avenue Theater and from what I hear it’s a pretty hard ticket to come by at this point.

On Friday the final voyage of the pirate-themed Comic-Con party takes place along San Diego Harbor on not one, but two ships. The Star of India and the HMS Providence, the same ship you see in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Hosted by Brandon Hillock as Captain Jack Sparrow and his crew of Pirates of the Caribbean look-a-likes, the Marked Men Party will feature music, drinks, zombies, sea creatures, mermaids, contests, giveaways and more. This event is from 8pm to 1am and for more info check out this link. Last I heard it was pretty close to selling out.

After participating in the Zombiewalk Saturday afternoon into early evening, you’ll be ready for the fun at Spin later that night. The end of days has come, the dead walk the earth and the living are barricading themselves from the dead. Overrun by the Zombie horde, the last remaining humans make their final, futile stand. X-Sanguin and The Zombie Defense Network invite you to dress up and go down in a blaze of glory at Spin Nightclub. This venue is just a hop, skip and a jump away from downtown. Its 10,000 sq. ft. and features 3 levels plus a serious sound and lighting system. I’ll be kicking off the music at 10am, spinning along side Diskdroid, Chris Millet and Niko. A busy and fun-filled weekend is upon us. Between Pride Festival, the after-parties and all other events going on there will be plenty to do in San Diego. Start the fun off early Thursday night at Voyeur with DJ Craze. When it comes to world-class turntablism skills, this 5x DMC World Champion reigns supreme. My head spins whenever I watch this video of him doing what he does best. Pretty freakin’ amazing!!! If you’ve never seen him do his magic live, don’t miss out on this opportunity. Lovers of Steampunk – Chrononaut is off to explore the legendary wilds of Ocean Beach, where no steampunk has dare tread before. Here’s to the short work week - always a plus after a holiday weekend. There is plenty to do if you want to get your groove on this Thursday through Saturday in San Diego. Word is we’ll have cooler weather starting Friday, but certainly not on the dance floor.

Thursday night LED presents Designer Drugs at Voyeur. After nearly 50 remixes for everyone from Little Boots to Fischerspooner to Thieves Like Us, the group, comprised of Michael Vincent Patrick and Theodore Paul Nelson finally released their debut album Hardcore/Softcore back in February of this year. They’ve played so many shows since their humble beginnings that the New York duo has logged over 300,000 miles traveling all over the world. They always put on a great show so don’t miss your chance to see them, with Black Matter doing opening honors. Check out more here. I’ll be breaking out my red, white and blue bikini this holiday weekend. Yes, I really do have one. It was given to me by former Miss Mission Beach, Linda Lee, and I wear it with pride. Fun, sun and sand – just what the doctor ordered. Remember, you definitely don’t want to be “that guy.” You know the one that has too much to drink and stumbles his way home from the party. Have a designated driver and be responsible because they are so many fun events on the horizon and you don’t want to miss a thing.

Start the party early Thursday night with SoundDiego Live at the House Of Blues Delta Room. I’ll be hosting the festivities starting at 7pm that will feature performances from Republic Of Letters, Parker and the Numberman and Black Resume. To get more info and rsvp, go here. I Scream Sunday is happening at The World Beat Center. This all ages event starts at 5pm and goes till midnight. Nom De Strip, Dskotek, Electric Criminal and Turbo Teen are headlining the main stage. Summertime is officially here! Has it already been a couple of years since Voyeur graced us with its presence and forever changed the face of downtown nightlife? Thursday night L.E.D. presents Voyeur’s 2 Year Anniversary Party with a very special guest. Everyone has been speculating that it will be Paul McCartney’s favorite Coachella 2011 DJ but mums the word on this one. It will surely be a party not to be missed.

My pick for Friday night is hanging at U-31 for Feel The Noise with DJs Gabe Vega, Saul Q and Pleasure Victim. Gabe Vega is one of my favorite local spinsters and he just came out with a new mix that is available for download here. Saturday is the Fleetwood/Surfrider Summer Block Party in the East Village just outside The Fleetwood, where we held SoundDiego Live last month. The fun starts at noon and goes all the way till 10pm. Yay, another weekend where I get to bounce around checking out the DJ action all over San Diego. I’ve got a few friends in from out of town that will be coming along for the ride. Plus, since its Father’s Day on Sunday and we’ll probably be consuming large quantities of food, gotta get in that extra cardio.

My pick for Thursday night is Porter Robinson at Voyeur. Hailing from North Carolina, 18-year-old Porter Robinson had never set foot in a club when his smash hit "Say My Name" shot to number one on Beatport's Electro-House chart. Robinson has earned the raving support of legendary producers such as Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, The Crystal Method and Armand Van Helden, and landed him shows across the globe – all before he has even had the chance to finish high school. Some might call Porter a prodigy, but that label belies his musical maturity and ignores his years of production experience. He manages to infuse the genres of electro, dubstep, trance and house like no one else. Producer/ musician/DJ/record label boss Don Diablo will be opening so get there early enough to catch him. This Friday night it’s Swedish dancehall/dub producer Liquid Stranger at Spin Nightclub. See him before he takes the stage at Electric Daisy Carnival in Vegas and don’t miss this Mainline Launch Party hosted by themixster.com and brought to you by the minds behind Dub Dorado and Elev8. Osal8 will be spinning and celebrating his birthday, plus there will be appearances from Mr. Biggs, Reactivity and Headshake. This Westchester, PA native was the first female on-air mixer at the No. 1 Top 40 radio station in America, KISS-FM in Los Angeles. I almost broke out my white pumps last weekend but I wasn’t feeling it. I may just do it this weekend. We are almost halfway through June and as things start to heat up, there will be more and more beach related events where your favorite DJs will be included. Also, keep an eye out for rooftop and pool action with the party vibe.

There are plenty of fun things for you to do when it comes to dancing. We have such a thriving scene of bands and DJs in San Diego. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. This weekend not only can you check out some great local talent, there are plenty of choices when it comes to out of town entertainment.

Thursday night, EDM with Fedde Le Grand is happening at Fluxx. This Dutch house DJ and producer has been at it since he was a teenager and hasn’t looked back since. His parties have been rocking the Netherlands since 2001, while his label Flamingo Recordings has been pushing its sound since 2004. Then Put Your Hands Up For Detroit exploded, hitting No. 1 in the UK, Spain, Russia, Finland and Bulgaria. It also won Best Underground House Track and Best Breaks/Electro Track at the IMDA, Club Banger of the Year in Miami and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Plus, Madonna, Fatboy Slim and Will.i.am all stood up and took notice and got the remix stamp from Le Grand. Also on this night at Fluxx, Don Santino will be celebrating the release of his new summer CD “Underground with Love,” so be sure to grab an exclusive copy after his set. Johnny James and The Office Twins will also be doing opening sets. Get more info here. At Voyeur, Dutch DJ and dance musician Sidney Samson will be headlining the night. He started spinning at the age of 14, focusing on hip-hop before working on house. He DJs at The Matrixx, a major Dutch nightclub and has released music on various record labels. His most popular song “Riverside,” was released in 2009, which reached No. 2 on the UK charts, No. 8 on the Dutch Top 40 and No. 10 on the Australian ARIA charts. Mr. White will be doing an opening set at Voyeur so get there early.

Truth must be told…I had never heard of the band Love Grenades two months ago. They were part of the bill at The Casbah back then. My friend Rosey aka sddialedin.com was there and texted me either that night or the following morning, raving about how I needed to get them to play my Pussy Galore night. On her recommendation I contacted their rep Niels who come to find out, I already knew. Funny how that happens in this business. Needless to say, everything came together and Love Grenades is playing as part of Pussy Galore on Friday at the Whistle Stop. I am really looking forward to seeing them live. Their recorded music is so catchy and fun and I'm sure in person they are the same way. Check out one of their latest songs here. Saturday Club Sabbat at The Flame in Hillcrest will not disappoint with its unique blend of Gothic, Industrial and dark ‘80s between the two rooms of music. I’ll be spinning in the front with Sabbat resident DJ Liquid Grey. Special guest Tom King of Soil fame will be doing it up in back with the old school. Front Line Assembly is the main project of Bill Leeb. He was a founding member of Skinny Puppy back in the day and left the band to form FLA in 1986. They released their latest album last year called Improvised.Electronic.Device and kicked off their first US tour in four years last month. The band makes their way to San Diego this Wednesday June 8th. Since Die Krupps had to pull off the bill due to visa issues, Dismanted will now be playing. I'm looking forward to DJing throughout the night.

Here’s to a short work week and your fun plans for the upcoming weekend. Plus, there’s something new for you to check out Thursday night. It’s the debut of Physical Education; a monthly electro, disco, boogaloo party at El Dorado, curated by French Kiss Collective. For the first night they’ve got Cosmic Kids coming down from Los Angeles and El Dorado’s own Steve McQueen to help kick off the party. To get in free before 10:30pm, RSVP here. Over at Voyeur, Switch will be playing a monstrous set of bass and beats. You may be familiar with some of his work: he co-wrote a song with M.I.A. called Paper Planes, teamed up with Diplo to form Major Lazer, and is the man behind the Dubsided label. Joining Switch on this night will be Drop The Lime aka Luca Venezia from New York City. Venezia’s influences range from Brian Eno to rockabilly to Sonic Youth to Wu Tang. He also runs Trouble & Bass records and is one of the world’s leading DJs/producers. DJ Carlo will be do an opening set and it’s birthday shenanigans time for Voyeur’s own Camron Adam Zibaie, so no parking on the dance floor. Hosts JediSugar will make sure you have a great time.

Your adventure into future disco, spacey house and techey grooves is happening Friday night at Kadan. Yes, the free dance party Moonshake is back with resident DJs Dr. Indulgent, Bob Dazzla and Mark E Quark. Plus, special guest DJ Kaos (Jolly Jam / DFA / Berlin) will be part of the mayhem. Another of my picks is The Bass Monster Tour at Spin Nightclub featuring Play Me Records head honcho/DJ extraordinaire Reid Speed. Alongside her for this tour is FS, formerly of bass turntablist band Ming & FS, whose first 2 dubstep releases have skyrocketed to the top of the Beatport dubstep chart. Rounding out the lineup is Cyberoptics, who's Play Me debut hit #1 for over 4 weeks last year. With these 3 on deck, and local dub-sters OSAL8 + Diddles along with SDRavers.net hosting the techno Atlantis Cave - this is a line-up you don’t want to miss. Can you say after-hours bass?!?

Saturday join me for Club Ascension’s monthly event at The Kava Lounge as I play host and DJ throughout the night. Tom King and special guests Liquid Grey and Dementia will also spin the best in dark underground dance music so don your velvet, lace and whatever else tickles your fancy for the evening. Three-Day Dance-Off!

Hot on the heels of another holiday weekend and the official start of summer is upon us. Plenty of backyard bbq-ing and beach action awaits. Hopefully you’ll be able to enjoy a combination of down time and fun. Isn’t that what it’s all about? Especially if you don’t have to work on Monday. Its been called “mini-Burning Man” along with “techno-chella,” but either way you slice it, Lightning In A Bottle is happening in Orange County. For those not making the trek, know that there is plenty of nightlife in town this Friday through Sunday.

Since some of you may be taking Friday off, working a half day or calling in sick, there are plenty of options for Thursday night. My personal picks are EDM with Ferry Corsten (the #9 ranked DJ in the world) and Cowboy Mike at Fluxx, plus there’s French techno maestro Mr. Oizo (Ed Banger Records) and Deth Hertz at Voyeur.

Friday night Spin Nightclub is the place to be, as Thomas Gandey aka Cagedbaby is hitting up San Diego for this special appearance before he heads to San Francisco and Vegas to share the stage with Fatboy Slim. Check out Gandey’s latest mix here and get ready for his techno/disco goodness. Joining Gandey in the main room will be DJ Ideal, Kid Wonder, Stillwell and Daniel Furth. The Atlantis area features DJ Schugar with MKZ and Adam Arila. Get info here and don’t forget this is an after-hours event so pace yourself accordingly.

Saturday is a tough one: there’s a lot to choose from. Green Velvet and Audrey Napoleon will be at Voyeur while Groundfloor has his mix CD release party at El Dorado. Plus, DJ Magazine’s #1 DJ in the world, Armin Van Buuren, will be kicking things off early for a special daytime Intervention at The Hard Rock.

Since many of you will be nursing a hangover by Sunday morning, why not start your day with Resurrection Brunch at West Coast Tavern in North Park. They have a fabulous Bloody Mary Bar along with tasty food, like my favorite, Chicken Fried Chicken. This Sunday I may go out of my box a little and order the Chicken ‘n’ Waffle. Yum!!! And that’s not even the half of it. I’ll be spinning ‘80s and ‘90s tunes from noon till 2pm. Brunch at West Coast starts at 10am so get there early and enjoy! Later on that day you can get your dance on at several hotspots around town. Intervention is going on at The Hard Rock with DJ Mag’s #5 DJ group, Above & Beyond. Also, LA Riots and PeaceTreaty headline a huge lineup at Wavehouse. Later that night Laidback Luke and Chris Lake will make you shake a leg at Voyeur for an 18+ event (no alcohol served at the bar) and then the party moves to 4^th & B (21+) until 4am. Also spinning at this event are Funkagenda, Aeroplane, Van Toth and Deth Hertz. You’ll definitely work off a few calories and then some.

I just returned from a relaxing few days at a resort on the Newport Coast. It was a great way to unwind; hard to believe my first vacation in 3 years. Needless to say, I was feeling somewhat guilty doing absolutely nothing. I’m so used to multi-tasking that when I’m not, it feels strange. I didn’t detach completely, as I still checked facebook, twitter, email and the web for the latest news and information. Touch my iPad and I’ll pummel you! The good thing is that I don’t need a vacation from my vacation. I’m ready to get back into the swing of things with some dancing and DJ action over the next few days. Especially because the end of the world is coming this weekend! ;-)

But first, my Thursday night picks include 12^th Planet at Voyeur, an El Dorado Brit-Pop Invasion and Marcus Schulz at Fluxx. Los Angeles based John Dadzie aka 12^th Planet has frequently been cited as the American Dubstep King. With or without that label he knows how to work a dance floor. Maybe you’ve seen him spinning at one of the bigger festival events like Coachella, SXSW, Ultra, Electric Daisy or Beyond Wonderland. Another fun-filled weekend is upon us and I’m ready to get my DJ and dance on! People often ask me what I enjoy more; being on the radio or spinning at a club. I always say both. Yes, the easy way out but it’s so true. Each one is completely different, as nothing beats the live energy from the crowd and feeding off of that vibe. Then again, interacting on the phone with listeners is a whole other thing. With the addition of social media sites like twitter and facebook plus email it brings in a whole other element. That is why I thrive on doing both, because they compliment one another in so many ways. This Friday and Saturday I’ll be doing a few of my regular monthly appearances and I’d love for you to join me.

This is the weekend where thousands of people dressed in black invade the happiest place on Earth. Yes, Bats Day Weekend is upon us and I’ll be attending the shenanigans at and around Disneyland. But if you are keeping it local in San Diego there is plenty to do. Now, lets not get ahead of the fun that will commence on Thursday night, as it’s Cinco de Mayo. Get your designated driver on and then make plans to attend at least one of several events happening around town. I suggest making the rounds from El Camino to Voyeur to El Dorado to The Office. Pace yourself because this is amateur night and you don’t want to be one of “those” people that are acting so sloppy that you’ll embarrass yourself. You still have to work on Friday, unless calling in sick is an option.

Speaking of Friday, the Moonshake DJs have a fun evening planned for you at Kadan. This adventure into future disco, spacey house, and techey grooves features resident DJs Dr. Indulgent, Bob Dazzla and Mark E Quark. Saturday night I highly recommend visiting The Kava Lounge for Club Ascension. Tom King will be hosting and DJing with ChadO, Precursor and Michael. This event happens the first Saturday of every month and it features the best in dark underground dance music. Go here for more details. Ready To Bust A Move This Weekend!

It’s a rare weekend where I don’t have any DJ gigs so that means I get to bounce around from one dance spot to the other. It’s my favorite thing to do because there are many great DJs that I rarely have a chance to see since I’m usually working. I picked a good weekend to be on the other side of the booth and I am so ready to bust a move!

I’ll be starting the shenanigans Thursday night by checking out a DJ set from Pendulum at Voyeur. The band won’t be performing, but Paul Harding aka El Hornet and Ben Mount aka MC Verse, both members of the Australian band, will be DJing. That’s the next best thing, right? Flinch and Turiyo from Los Angeles open the night.

Just down the street, The Gareth Emery Northern Lights Tour will be killing it at Fluxx. Emery was voted Number 7 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs poll making him the UK’s highest rated DJ, and one of the youngest to ever crack the top ten. In 2010, he released his debut artist album ‘Northern Lights’ on his own label Garuda to stunning reactions from fans and critics alike, hitting no.1 on the US iTunes dance chart within hours of release. He also celebrated 100 episodes and four years of his award winning podcast while also finding time to play 130 shows, selling out clubs and rocking festivals in 40 countries to over 2 million people. Friday night at U-31, the golden duo Fare Soldi (which means making money in Italian) is back by popular demand. What happens when you put two Italian producers together and meld their music influences of disco, house, hip hop and indie rock together? Frisco Disco happens! Fare Soldi’s first album was released in 2002 and they haven’t looked back since. Currently their remix of Babylon for Congorock and their remix of Duck Sauce’s Barbra Streisand are killing it on dance floors and festivals all over the place. Their new EP Casotto is available now and you can check it out here. More remixes and new tracks are also in the works. Gabe Vega and Colour Vision will be doing support sets at this event on Friday, plus one of my favorite photographers, itwasthelight, will roam the club and document the fun. On Saturday two beautiful ladies will be providing the soundtrack to our evening at Voyeur. Sydney Blu is making her debut at the club on this night, which is pretty exciting in itself. Originally from Canada and currently based in Miami, Sydney Blu’s success has been built upon numerous hit singles and plenty of world touring. She even founded her own record label Blu Music, which has produced several chart-topping singles over the years. Plus, support from such heavy hitters as Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk and Deadmau5 has propelled her to the forefront of the dance music scene. Brazzabelle will open the festivities at Voyeur so get there early.

While peeps and eggs abound this Easter weekend, make the most of getting your dance on Friday and Saturday. You may have some extra calories to burn off, especially is you'll be doing some family time for the holiday Sunday.

As always we start the party early Thursday night and Nero at Voyeur will not disappoint. This London electronic act is best known for fusing dubstep and drum and bass into their DJ sets. Friday don’t miss the return of German DJ/producer Tocadisco to Voyeur downtown. What A Weekend!

I'm finally getting back into the swing of things in San Diego after being at Coachella all weekend. Needless to say, I can't wait to go back next year. Yep, it was my first time at the event. When I tell people that they don't believe me. I know...it would seem like my kind of thing, right? Well, I've never been able to fix my schedule accordingly. Since it fell on the third weekend of the month all systems were a go with no conflicts.

Here are a few photos of the festivities at the 91X flop house as part of the live broadcast that happened during the day Friday through Sunday. The Aquabats, Foster The People, Mariachi El Bronx and Plan B were just a few of the bands that stopped by. Needless to say, it was a blast!!! The bottom two photos are just random things that made me smile at the festival itself. Danny Devito jumped onstage with The Aquabats on Friday night. Plus, Duran Duran's set list from Sunday night kicked ass! :-)

Coachella or Bust!

It’s the weekend that many of us have been waiting for. Three days where we abandon all sense of self by baking in the sun for hours on end, walking endless miles day into night and drinking whatever we can get our hands on…within reason. Yes, Coachella is upon us. Between the handy dandy 91X Coachella Survival Guide and the fabulous article that Taylor Doms aka The Mixster put together, we’ll be sufficiently prepared. But remember, there are those that don’t go to this annual trek to the desert. And many parties to prove it are happening Thursday through Saturday in San Diego. On the flip side, there are also pre-Coachella events so take your pick on which you want to support. Heck, play both sides of the fence and partake in all of the above.

Thursday night there’s an Industry Coachella Kickoff party at The Ivy Nightclub. Infusion Project artists Vincent Gordon, Janelle Carter, Shay McCulloch and Stefano Romano will be in The Wine Bar as they paint and showcase new artwork. DJs Schugar and Red Alien will lay down the soundtrack for the night spinning techno and house. Plus on the rooftop there’s DJ Who with Paulo de Rosa on live guitar plus a live performance by Hyena. Inside the club, join Mr. Dee Jay and Flesch. Lots going on during this event. Over at Voyeur, DJ/Producer Jake Stanczak aka Kill The Noise will be cranking out electro jams for the masses. Friday and Saturday U-31 in North Park flips the bird to Coachella with their anti-parties this weekend. Superstar DJ Keoki is flying in all the way from New York City to spin on Friday night. Gabe Vega will be doing opening honors and it’s free before 10pm. Details via this link. On Saturday DJs Method and Schoeny will be coming in from San Francisco for this event. My other picks for Friday and Saturday hot spots are El Dorado and Voyeur, including an appearance Saturday at Voyeur from Steve Duda, most well known for his programming and remixing for Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle and Rob Zombie. You may also know Duda from the electro group BSOD that he formed with Deadmau5 back in 2005. Nowadays he is a sought after producer in Los Angeles and it’s amazing how he balances all facets of his life.

I take San Diego for granted way too often. We live in such a beautiful city and sometimes I’m running around like crazy so I miss out on how much this town has to offer. You know what I mean…those scenic destinations and secret spots that only the locals know about. I’ve been told on more than one occasion to stop and smell the roses. But when it comes to night life, I definitely don’t let that pass me by. Anyone that ever says there’s nothing to do here is sorely mistaken. But yet, I hear it quite often. Maybe these people just don’t know where to go. Well, seek and you shall find. No matter what style of music you are into, there is something you’ll enjoy when it comes to going out to clubs and getting your dance on.

My two picks for starting the party early on Thursday are Bag Raiders at Voyeur and Dutch techno/trance DJ/producer Sander Van Doorn at Fluxx. This is Bag Raiders first international tour ever. The Sydney, Australia house duo is well known for their remixes and live shows. Take a listen here and don’t miss this great opportunity to see them so up close and personal. The beautiful L.A. based Brazzabelle will be doing opening honors so make sure you get to Voyeur early. And down the street, Fluxx EDM is back and you are in for a good time with Sander Van Doorn. Word on the street is that his set at Ultra in Miami was amazing. This will be his third time DJing at Fluxx, so if you haven’t seen him before, now is your chance at this amazing venue. Plus, Cowboy Mike, Jason Ross and DJ Flo will be warming up the crowd.

This weekend I’ll be putting my host and DJ hat on for two fun events. Friday after work will consist of running around and getting ready for Pussy Galore’s monthly night at The Whistle Stop in South Park. It’s an awesome neighborhood hang. Not only is the crowd super chill but the staff there is always friendly and makes you feel welcomed. I’ll be spinning electro, indie, ‘80s and more with Terryn S throughout the night. Saturday Club Sabbat celebrates 13 years of being one of the hottest clubs in the San Diego scene with its Gothic, Industrial and Fetish flair. All kidding aside, this weekend is going to be off the hook with parties and celebrations galore.

But first, Thursday night the DJ stylings of Grammy nominated Wolfgang Gartner grace the stage at House Of Blues for the opening of his tour. This stellar electro/house music producer will be joined by Felix Cartel for an 18+ show. Gear up by listening to this and get ready for an energetic set of non-stop party action. Over at Voyeur, electronic DJ/producer Hatiras headlines a fun night of music. He just tore it up at the Ultra Festival in Miami and San Diego is his next stop. Doing opening honors is Mr. White, who spun in town a few weeks ago at Voyeur.

Friday April Fools night with Moonshake at Kadan will feature Phil-Aye, a former member of San Diego’s Siesta Music group. Phil has been spinning since the early ‘90s, having been involved in great parties like Galactic Soundsystem, Global Underworld and 4 Directions. His selection of tunes is right in line with Moonshake’s discotech tradition. In addition, all the usual suspects will be in the house; Mark E. Quark, Dr. Indulgent and Bob Dazzla. After spending most of last weekend working in Hollywood, I’m ready to get my dance on in San Diego. It’s funny because my picks for Thursday night involved mostly DJs from Los Angeles. I’ve mentioned Liplock at AC Lounge before in my blogs and that’s one of my recommendations for Thursday. Your host MayStar knows how to bring the party wherever she goes, and this is just one of several events she is hosting this weekend. DJs Dirty Dave, Cosmic Dan, Mr. Biggs and Colourvision (celebrating his birthday) will keep the floor moving with disco, house and boogie music all night long. More details here. Another option on this night is checking out the electronic DJ/producer duo Villains at one of this town’s best EDM spots, Voyeur. Opening up the night and warming up the crowd will be another Los Angeles duo, No Body.

Friday night Teen Wolf (Bryan Orellana) invades U-31 with his brand of electro, house and hip-hop. This Vegas native has been DJing and producing since the age of 17, hence the nickname. Five years later he has over 47 remixes and originals under his belt. Take a listen here and get ready to party on the dance floor. Saturday night Club Sabbat takes over The Flame in Hillcrest with its Gothic/Industrial/Fetish flair. Liquid Grey and special guest John C spin in the front room while Drew Harlander keeps the old school vibe going in the back. Boudicca Leather will be showcasing their wares and I’m hosting the festivities during this final 4^th Saturday at The Flame. After consuming massive amounts of corned beef and cabbage, Irish stew, potato soup, soda bread and green beer on St. Paddy’s Day, you’re going to need a place to burn off all those calories. Not to worry, as there is plenty to choose from on dance floors all over San Diego this weekend.

My pick for starting the party Thursday night is John Digweed (Bedrock Records), as he brings his blend of progressive house and techno to On Broadway downtown. As a DJ, producer and label owner, Digweed has his hands in multiple facets of the music industry. Lets not forget he started DJing when he was 11 years old. His list of achievements is groundbreaking; including the first proper DJ compilation with Sasha called The Mix Collection. He is also the first British DJ to hold a residency (with Sasha) at what was then the world’s most well known club in NYC, Twilo. His list of remixes is huge: William Orbit, Underworld, Depeche Mode, Chemical Brothers and New Order just to name a few. Also along for the ride at this event Thursday are a slew of other accomplished DJs, including Kazell, Stillwell, Mark E Quark, Jon Dadon and Randy Vission. This party is 18+ so make way for plenty of bodies to enjoy this night of music culminating with a legendary player in the electronic music world. If you love ‘80s music, check out Moonshake at Kadan Friday night with DJs Indulgent, Mark E. Quark and Bob Dazzla. This special edition of the night will have the boys digging deep into their respective record collections and presenting their version of an ‘80s hedonistic underground club in a Moonshake style. Expect to hear the best and craziest tunes that they own - everything from early ‘80s disco, italo, EBM, Boogie, Acid House to early electro. While I’m invading the DJ booth Saturday night at Bar Sinister in Hollywood, there’s plenty for you to do in town. Get your dance on at any of these hotspots: U-31, El Dorado or Voyeur. You can’t go wrong either way. There’s the Teamsters Ball at U-31 where two mixers and four turntables will keep the floor on fire all night. Two of my favorite local DJs are spinning: Ayla Simone and DJ Schoeny. I’ve been following Ms. Simone for the past year and she really knows how to work a crowd. I always give props to fellow female DJs, as this business is still dominated by men. If you ever have the chance to check her out live, definitely do so. You’ll love it!

Stomp Till You Drop!

Another weekend is upon us and it’s time to let off some steam and dance and stomp till we drop. There’s everything from house to industrial to disco for your dancing shoes to enjoy. If you plan on stomping, then it’s probably best to wear some big black boots and the appropriate eyewear.

You probably won’t need goggles Thursday at Voyeur downtown when you check out Fake Blood aka DJ Touché. A little history on this wonderful British DJ, producer and musician (whose real name is Theo Keating). He made his name as one half of the hip-hop/electronica band called The Wiseguys. Fast forward to Keating’s current project, the duo The Black Ghosts. Keating is also a house/electro DJ and producer, under the name Fake Blood. He has released several productions, including his 2009 release “I Think I Like It”. Keating has also done remixes for many artists, including Hot Chip, The Kills and Little Boots. Deth Hertz from Los Angeles will open this event Thursday night and here is the link for more info.

Friday night two lovely ladies are celebrating their birthdays. U-31’s Nicole Novak has a fun-filled dance night planned for you; a disco-house extravaganza featuring a special DJ set from The Juan Maclean of DFA Records at U-31 in North Park. Saul Q and Colourvision will also be spinning so get ready to party. Go to this link for details.
